Court directs govt to take steps to contain Dengue

Patna, Oct 11 (UNI) The Patna High Court today directed the Bihar government to immediately initiate steps to prevent spread of dengue and asked to spray insecticides through fogging machines.

While hearing a petition, a division bench of the Court of Justice Narayan Rai and Justice Seema Ali Khan directed the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to spray medicines and insecticides specially in the waterlogged areas. The court asked PMC to work in tandem with the state Malaria department and initiate the preventive measures on war footing.

The judges also asked the PMC to apprise the court of the actions taken to prevent the spread of Dengue on October 19.

The court further directed the PMC to repair the leakage and change the damaged pipelines in order to ensure supply of safe drinking water.

Hearing another petition, the same bench took strong exception on non enforcement of Protection of Disabled Act 1995 and asked the secretaries of personnel and social welfare departments to inform the court why the act had not been enforced in the satate so far which facilitates 3 per cent reservation in government jobs for the disabled persons.

Earlier, Bihar Public Service Commission in an affidavit informed the court that it had so far not received any direction from the state government for advertisments with reservation facilities for the disabled.
