Court direction to proceed against Shoaib Iqbal and Satish Yadav

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) A Delhi Court today directd the Sesssions Court to proceed against Delhi politicians Shoaib Iqbal and Satish Yadav for allegedly instigating a demonstration on July 17, 1997 to throw stones at a police party resulting in the death of Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Hari.

Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate Dr Kamini Lau today sent the case file to the District Magistrate for its fresh trial in a sessions court.

The Court directed the sessions court to proceed against the politicians and his followers including Liaqat Ali for alleged violence in which the police officer was seriously injured.

According to the prosecution, the workers of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were staging a demonstration in front of Parliament Street police station at 1315 hrs.

Iqbal and Yadav, who were MLAs then, leading a rally of 250 to 300 Janata Dal workers, also arrived at the spot.

The police used water cannon to stop the rally from moving towards Parliament building.

It is alleged that both the leaders had instigated the mob to pelt stones at the police, in which Mr Hari was injured.

Mr Hari subsequently died due to injury he sustained during the demonstration, according to a report of the Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP).

''Hence on the basis of the additinal material brought on record in pursuant to the further investigations, I take cognizance for the offence under the section 304 of the IPC against all the accused in addition to various other offences under sections 147, 148, 149,186, 188, 332, 353 and 427,'' said the court.
