Bengal to take stern steps to stop sound pollution
Kolkata, Oct 11 (UNI) The West Bengal government would take stern steps to reduce sound pollution in the Dipawali, Jagatdhatri and Chhat puja celebrations, Environment Minister Mahanta Chatterjee said today.
Action would be taken against those bursting crackers over the 90 decibel sound limit, Mr Chatterjee said at the Writers' Building after a meeting with police and pollution control board officials.
He said his department had organised several workshops with the firecracker producers to motivate them to produce soundless crackers to stop sound pollution.
The government has also directed the administration to ensure immersion of idols within the specified time limit to ensure that inflammable articles could be removed from the river bed to stop pollution, he added.
