AIR India beat ANFA Nepal 1-0 in Governor's Gold Cup

Gangtok, Oct 11 (UNI) Air India beat ANFA, Nepal, 1-0 in a quarterfinal league match to book their place in the next round of the 28th All India Governor's Gold Cup tournament here today.

AIR India, in their first outing today, scored a goal in the second half through Bashir M Abass in the 74th minute and went close on several other occasions.

AIR India team got their all important goal when Abass headed the ball coming from a corner shot inside the box.

With this win, AIR India, which figured in the Group B, got three points, while Army XI led the group with six points from two wins.

ANFA, Nepal, which lost to Army XI earlier had not yet been able to garner any point so far.

The first half the match ended goalless with neither of the teams managed to score any goal.

However, in the second half Yugal Kishor Rai scored a goal for ANFA but the referee did not allow it as he was off side.

ANFA, Nepal, were disappointed as shots from V Gauchan, Santosh Gurung and Upendra Mansingh sailed wide and a header from Anan Thappa rolled over the bar.

On the other end the AIR India team made a number of attacks many of which led to corner kicks. But they failed to convert any of these into goals.
