AIIMS facing dengue deluge
New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) As the All India Institute of Medical Sciences faces a dengue deluge, 368 viral disease patients, including 170 under treatment at present, were admitted to the institute since August.
AIIMS media centre incharge Dr Shakti Gupta said in October alone, 226 seropositive dengue patients were admitted to the hospital.
Doctors at the world-renowned healthcare institute are struggling to keep pace with the growing number of growing of dengue cases.
About 12,000 fever patients have been screened at the fever screening clinic at AIIMS casualty since October 3.
On an average, about 800 to 1,000 fever patients are coming to the AIIMS casualty for the last 12 days, he said.
He said of the 368 cases, 218 people below the age of 25 years had dengue and 62 were from the campus.
At present 170 patients are undergoing treatment for the viral disease out of which 39 new cases were admitted in the past 24 hours, Dr Gupta said.
He said 42 patients were discharged in the same time period.
AIIMS, has been conducting approximately 1,600 platelet counting test daily with the help of five counting machines, he said. Four platelet separator machines are functioning in the laboratory,'' he added.
About 2,500 blood platelet units have been provided to dengue patients in the last 15 days.
So far 22 dengue deaths have been reported from Delhi.
