Work in coordination for higher agriculture production: JK minister
Srinagar, Oct 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Abdul Aziz Zargar has called for close coordination among scientists, officials and farmers to facilitate growth in the agricultural sector.
Speaking at a function here, he referred to the government's plans of facilitating green revolution in vegetables, red revolution regarding oil seeds and round revolution regarding potato production.
He said vegetables worth Rs 80 to 90 crore were produced in Rajpora, Jammu alone last year but its marketing could not be arranged in time in view of low consumption and demand resulting in wastage of most of the produce.
He said present trend should be followed of finding a market first and then the farmers go for production.
The Minister also constituted a high level committee comprising Director, Research Sher-e-Kashmir University Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST), Director Agriculture Kashmir, Joint Director Inputs and one scientist of SKUAST for procurement of certified vegetable seed from the valley.
Another Fertilizer Requirement Committee to assess nutritional condition of the soil was also constituted.
