Uttaranchal Minister petitions Kalam against mercy to Afzal

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) Uttaranchal Minister of State and chairman Rajya Nirman Andolankari Kalyan Parishad Dhirendra Pratap Singh today urged President APJ Abdul Kalam not to commute the death sentence of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal.

In a memorandum submitted to the President here, Mr Singh said the death penalty for Mohammad Afzal has been confirmed by the Supreme Court too, so it would send a wrong signal throughout the country if such a person is given amnesty.

''A person, who is responsible for the killing of many people does not deserve any clemency, I therefore request you to reject his mercy petition,'' he said.
