University students demand apppoinment of key officials
Imphal, Oct 10 (UNI) The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has demanded immediate appoinment of academicians in some key posts so that study of the students were no affected further.
MUSU president Ch Rupachandra claimed that many important posts were lying vacant affecting study of the students. Both the teaching community and the students were affected by the delay in appointment of some key posts in the University, he added. He said that no major decision could be taken in absence of some key officials in the institution.
A MUSU delegation had called on Governor Dr SS Sidhu yesterday and apprised the matter to him. A memorandum was also submitted to him.
A copy of the memorandum, distributed today to the media, said a nominee, of the Visitor, a compulsory member of the University selection committee for fresh appointments and promotion of teachers and officers, has not been nominated. As the Manipur University was upgraded to a Central University, the President of India is the Visitor while the Governor of the state is the Chief Rector.
Due to non-appointment of nominee, the promotion of teachers was affected and no major decisions could be taken. The University was facing shortages of teachers, MUSU said, which affected the academic career of the students.
