Sun Microsystems is No.1 in unix server market

Bangalore, Oct 10: Sun Microsystems India today announced that it has occupied the leadership position in non-x86/UNIX server market in the second quarter of the current fiscal, with 56.6 per cent market share by units.

Quoting IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q2 2006, Sun Microsystems, in a release here, said revenuewise it held a market share of 38.1 per cent.

In the non-x86/UNIX segment in India, Sun was the only vendor whose revenue share increased on a year-on-year basis in Q2 2006.

The release said Sun was the fastest growing vendor in the High-end Enterprise and Mid-range Enterprise segments of the non-x86 Unix server market in India in Q2 2006 on a year-on-year basis. Sun was also the number one ranked vendor in the non-x86 Unix Mid-range Enterprise server segment in Q2 2006.

Additionally, Sun continued to maintain its number three position in the India overall server market in Q2 2006 in terms of revenues.

According to IDC, Sun ended Q2 2006 with a revenue share of 19 per cent in terms of overall server market in India, up from 15.87 per cent in Q2 2005.
