Special squad to probe police station burglary attempt
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 10: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today said a special squad had been formed to probe yesterday's burglary attempt at a police station in Pathanamthitta, where some persons tried to enter the weapons room.
Replying to a submission in the Assembly, he said one Head Constable and three constables who were on duty at the time of the incident were suspended from service pending an inquiry.
The government would treat the incident in all seriousness as it involved a burglary attempt on a police station, he added.
According to sources, the attempt was made between 0230 hrs and 0300 hrs yesterday when four policemen were on duty. The burglars bored a hole on the back of the police station wall to enter the room. They fled after seeing a policeman coming out.
The sources said 33 rifles, pistols, revolvers and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition were stored in the 'Bell of Arms', besides cash worth Rs three lakh.
