Silk industry back on rails

Srinagar, Oct 10: With a view to reviving silk industry in Jammu and Kashmir, state government has assured all assistance and help to the people involved in this industry.

This assurance was given by the Minister of State for Industries Commerce Romesh Chander Sharma during his visit to silk viewing Factory Raj Bagh spread over 110 kanals of land.

He was told that there are 120 Japani looms in the factory for the preparation of silk.

He was further informed that there are silk stocks worth Rs 50 lakh in the showroom presently.

Meanwhile, in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, the cocoon production has reached 36,695 kg this year accruing an income of Rs 35 lakh to 754 planters, which is 15 lakh more than that of last year, an official spokesman said.

He said that during first six months of the current financial year, 14,146 mulberry plantations were carried out which include 53,800 field plantations on 597 kanals of land and 28,500 departmental plantations on 316 kanals.
