Senior RJD leader resigns

Patna, Oct 10 (UNI) Senior RJD leader Javed Mehboob today resigned from the primary membership of the party alleging that RJD president Lalu Prasad had used the minorities only as vote bank.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Mehboob charged Mr Prasad with patronising the Bhagalpur riot accused of 1989.

He alleged that Mr Prasad had tried to withdraw cases against some accused of Bhagalpur riot during his tenure as Bihar Chief Minister.

He welcomed the decision of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to hold fresh inquiries into the Bhagalpur riot. ''Cases which were closed during the Lalu-Rabri regime were being re-opened during the present dispensation and attempts were being made to punish them'' he maintained.

Mr Mehboob also flayed the slogan of social justice of Mr Prasad saying it centred around his own family. Mr Prasad did not take initiative during his tenure for fencing the graveyards while Nitish government had directed the concerned authorities to work for erecting fences around the different graveyards of the state, he maintained.
