Police to conduct awareness programmes during Diwali

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) The city police would conduct an awareness campaign on noise pollution, along with the State Pollution Control Board, during the Diwali festival, Police Commissioner A K Mahanty said today.

Addressing at a press conference here, Mr Mahanty said the campaign would be organized in 400 schools and residential places to sensitise them on noise pollution caused by bursting crackers during the festival. Five joint inspection teams have been constituted to take action on cracker sellers who violate the norms.

Stating that the temporary rpt temporary licences would be given to the cracker sellers, the Commissioner said sound should not exceed 120 decibels from the crackers.

Police would take stringent action on the wholesale cracker dealers who violate the norms.

Pollution Control Board Official K V Ramavathi said noise and air pollution has been crossing the limits since 2003.
