PM, Blair call for coherent global effort on terror
London, Oct 10: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his British counterpart Tony Blair today agreed on the need for a ''coherent global effort'' with a ''shared perspective and committment'' to tackle the menace of international terrorism.
Addressing a joint press conference, following their 30-minute one-to-one meeting followed by delegation-level talks, both leaders shared with each other information on the attacks in London and Mumbai, which were a reminder of the common terrorist threats both countries face. They called for ''committed and effective cooperation to combat terrorism wherever and whenever terrorist attacks take place.'' On the nuclear test conducted by North Korea yesterday, Dr Singh conveyed to Mr Blair his apprehensions about the ''clandestine proliferation of nuclear technology'' in India's neighbourhood.
Agreeing that Pyongyang had violated its international committments, both the Prime Ministers said they would work in consultation with the six-nation committee on the issue.
Both Dr Singh and Mr Blair also expressed appreciation for each other's ''personal committment'' in strengthening the strategic relationship between the two countries.
