Pipe company seeks Rs one cr compensation from BIS
Bangalore, Oct 10 (UNI) A local dealer of HDPE pipes has sent a legal notice to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), seeking a compensation of Rs one crore, besides filing civil and criminal suit against the organisation on defamation grounds.
The premises of dealer Sri Kalyani Enterprises was raided by a team of officials recently and on October seven, a section of the media, quoting a BIS statement, had said a big haul of misused ISI marked Kisan brand HDPE pipes was recovered.
Company owner Vikas Lodha, in a release here, said the report was ''misleading and utterly false''. His company was an authorised dealer of the Kisan brand HDPE pipes and not even an inch of such pipe was seized during the raid. However, the authorities had seized HDPE pipes of a different make. ''I am shocked that a department like BIS can stoop to such a level as to destroy one's life by such false news publication,'' he added.
In the legal notice addressed to Mr Ananth Kumar Dhul, Chief Vigilance Officer of BIS, he had stated that the news had affected him badly and he was going through mental agony as it had defamed him in the eyes of the public. The false report was also being spread by his competitors to bring disrepute to his business, he contended.
