Paramjeet, Santosh moves into semis of Asian junior boxing
Panaji, Oct 10 (UNI) India's Paramjeet and S Santosh made it to the semi-finals of the 2nd Junior Asian Boxing Championship which got underway at Calangute in North Goa today.
Paramjeet scored a scintillating victory in the opening bout in the light flyweight 48-kg category and packed too many punches for Chungyunchi of Chinese Taipei to sustain and wonn by a comfortable margin of 18 points.
India's second pugilist S Santosh, though off colour against T V Viet of Vietnam in the Bantam 54-kg category, managed to hold on and win by 19-10.
Sri Lankan D R Vijeratne put up a classy show against Singapore's M D Nordia and a thundering blow to Nordin's head in the second round forced the stoppage of the contest.
Earlier, the champonship was inaugurated by Abhay Singh Chautala, President of IABF.
Following are the results: Light flyweight 48-kg: Paramjeet (India) bt Chungyunchi (Chinese Taipei) by 31-13.
Flyweight 51-kg: Akbari (Iran) beat Wan M Rizwan (Mongolia) -- out classed.
Bantam weight 54-kg: S Santosh (India) beat T V Viet (Vietnam) 19-10; N Veba Yashi (Japan) beat Singay Phub (Bhutan) 54-37; D R Vijeratne (Sri Lanka) beat M D S Nordia (Singapore) -- referee stopped the contest following head injury in the second round; Bashenov (Kazakhstan) beat Dotgondalai (Mongolia) on points 37-19.
Feather weight 57-kg: Ilyason (Kazakhstan) beat A Huday Barg (Turkemenistan) 28-10.
