Over 38 lakh kids to get polio drops in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) About 38.50 lakh children will be administered polio vaccine in Haryana under the Sub-national Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Round to be conducted on November 12.

An official spokesman said the campaign would be continued for two more days from house-to-house so as to administer polio vaccine to those children who might have not been administered the vaccine on the first day.

Over 15,000 booths would be set up in the state and these would be manned by about 60,000 health officials, volunteers, anganwari workers and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).

Also, about 3000 officers and officials would supervise the immunisation operation. These would include independent monitors from the state headquarters, WHO, Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Pt.B.D.S.

Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak and Government Medical College, Chandigarh.

The campaign would be preceded by an awareness drive through print and electronic media, the spokesman said.

He said special attention would be paid to those residing in slums, far-flung areas, isolated hutments, brick kilns and the migratory population.
