No report of Dengue and Chikungunya in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 10 (UNI) Taking no chances, the Meghalaya government have instructed all Deputy Commissioners and District Hills Medical Officers to take all necessary steps to prevent outbreak of Dengue and Chikungunya in the state.

So far, we have not received any report from any districts of people being infected by Ades Mosquitoes, state Minister in-charge Health and Family Welfare Elstone D Marak told UNI here today.

"I have instructed my department to spray DDT to prevent breeding of mosquitoes," the minister said, adding that the government is prepared to tackle if there is an outbreak of this virus in the state.

Mr Marak also appealed to the public to get rid of stagnant water, which was the breeding ground of the mosquito that carries Dengue and Chikungunya -causing virus.
