Nine more suspected Chikungunya deaths; toll 109
Alappuzha, Oct 10 (UNI) Nine more people, including a new-born baby, died of suspected Chikungunya in the Cherthala taluk here today, raising the death toll in the viral fever outbreak in the area to 109.
The one-day-old baby boy died at a private hospital where his parents Reji and Sindhu from Kanjikuzhy were undergoing treatment for the suspected fever.
The other victims include Sreedharan (60) of Cherthala municipality, Bhargavi (80) of Muhamma panchayat, Madhavi (80) and Lonan (65) both of Kadakarapally panchayat, Mohan (45) of Mararikulam north panchayat, Mary Xavier (80) of Thaikaducherry panchayat, Parameshwaran (69) and Saraswathi Amma (80) both from Pallippuram panchayat.
All the victims were suffering from high fever and other associated symptoms of Chikungunya, sources said.
Meanwhile, one person Renjen (30) died of rat fever at the medical college hospital here.
