Mukherjee leads demonstration against Tata car project

Kolkata, Oct 10 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former city Mayor Subrata Mukherjee today led a demonstration in front of the Tata Centre building here in protest against setting up of the Tata car factory at Singur.

Shouting slogans, the demonstrators jeered the state Government and demanded that the project be stopped.

A strong contingent of police, posted in the area, however, prevented the demonstrators from getting close to the building.

Mr Mukherjee was virtually the lone Congress leader to have taken to the street yesterday in support of the Trinamool Congress-sponsored Bengal bandh.
