More women should join security forces: Patil
Hyderabad, Oct 10: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today urged women to join the security forces in large numbers.
Speaking after inspecting a colourful ceremonial parade at the premier National Industrial Security Academy, he said women were showing their mettle in all walks of life, including Parliament and state legislatures. The strength of women in security forces should go up by at least 10 per cent in the next five years, he opined.
Expressing disappointment over less number of women in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), he said they hardly constituted five per cent of the CISF strength at the officers level and one or two per cent at the jawans level.
Meanwhile, over 20 of the 163 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Commandants swooned due to 'the heat' as the ceremony started after a delay of more than 30 minutes.
Later, the Assistant Commandants conducted fire fighting demonstratation in the presence of Mr Patil using 'foam tender and dry chemical powder tender.
