Mobile team to create awareness about women's rights

Bellary, Karnataka, Oct 10 (UNI) With a mission to enlighten rural and SC/ST women about Acts pertaining to the fairer sex, the district police machinery has set up a 'Mahila Jaagruthi Sanchaara Dala' (Women awareness mobile team) for the first time in Karnataka.

Flagging off the van at the district police office here, Superintendent of Police Amrith Paul said the six-member team, part of the women's grievance cell at the district police office, would focus on the grievances of rural women who were ignorant of the Acts available to protect them. The team comprised a woman advocate, a woman police officer in the rank of sub-inspector, a female nurse, a member of the social welfare department, a member of the helpline cell and a woman teacher, he added.

The team would create an awareness about women's rights as enshrined in the Constitution, their education, Government schemes for their benefit, the role of women in protecting the health of family members, their involvement in keeping their house and street clean and hygienic, and the importance of a balanced meal daily.

He said the team would visit the selected five villages two days in a week to study the living conditions of rural women and identify their needs and problems by having direct interactions. After studying the ground reality, it would organise awareness programmes.
