K'taka Govt to issue circular regarding Bhagyalaxmi scheme

Bangalore, Oct 10 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will issue a circular in the next few days to implement Bhagyalaxmi scheme, which provided for a cash deposit of Rs 10,000 to girl children from below poverty line families, Women and Child Development Minister H K Kumaraswamy said today.

Talking to reporters here, he said 43,000 beneficiaries had been identified and all of them would be notified accordingly.

The maturity amount of the deposit would be Rs 44,000 when the girl reached 18 years of age. Besides, she was entitled to get an annual allowance of Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 from class one to class ten to meet her education and health needs.

The scheme, announced in the budget this year, was cleared by the Cabinet and several norms had been relaxed for it.

The Minister said the scheme would apply to two female children in a BPL family and not cover those families which had violated the family planning norms.
