Kerala Govt files status report on Chikungunya

Kochi, Oct 10 (UNI) The Kerala Government today filed a status report on Chikungunya in the High Court, stating that the Health Department was vigilant of the viral disease and adequate steps were being taken to overcome it.

The department was analysing the situation on a day-to-day basis and taking effective steps to combat the epidemic with the help of panchayat raj institutions. There were 53,885 suspected Chikungunya fever cases as on October 8, the report said.

The local bodies were making efforts to distribute fogging machines to wipe out breeding of mosquitoes.

The incidence of Chikungunya reported earlier in Parassala and Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram district was curbed with the concerted efforts of the health department, local bodies, non-government and other voluntary organisations, the report added.
