IT, ITES sector to generate 7 lakh employment: Survey
Chennai, Oct 10: With the rapid growth of IT and ITES sector in the country, nearly seven lakh job opportunities in the organised sector are predicted from the sector in the coming days, according to an employment survey conducted by Ma Foi Global Search Services Limited.
Briefing media on the findings of the survey here today, Ma Foi Management Consultants Limited Managing Director K Pandia Rajan said the survey carried out in nine main sectors like IT and ITES, Construction, Communication and Transport, Retail, Manufacturing, Energy, BFSI, Mining and other services had found that the job opportunities was poised for an overall growth of above 10 lakh in the current year.
Belying all expectations, the BFSI sector comprising Banking, Financial Services and Insurance, which was supposed to generate more jobs had shown a decline in providing employment, he added.
The survey found that the private sector had clearly taken a lead in generating employment with an employment index of 6.26 per cent, public sector undertakings with 0.09 per cent and public sector with 2.24 per cent, he informed.
Larsen and Toubro Limited ECC Division Operations Head K V Rangaswami said the construction industry can provide employment generation only if the government commits to infrastructure development in the country.
The construction industry must leap forward to facilitate employment generation," he added.
Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited (IDFC) senior Director Anupam Srivastava said the opening up of key sector like Telecom had facilitated more employment opportunities and the retail was the next sector that can be looked for further employment generation.
" Opening up of retail sector and FDI will generate employment.
If the potential of the sector to generate employment is tapped in a right way, it will provide plenty of employment in the country," he added.
