Indian Trade Exhibition at Tashkent generate good business enquiri

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) Over 50 entrepreneurs representing 25 major companies and public sector undertakings showcased their products at the 3rd Indian Trade Exhibition held in Tashkent from October 6 and received a number of business enquiries during its three-day exposition.

The trade exhibition, organised by the Indo-CIS Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan was inaugurated by Mr E V K S Elangovan, Minister of State for Textiles.

In his inaugural speech, Mr Elangovan said that the exhibition would help expand trade relations between Uzbekistan and India and provide an excellent opportunity for developing interaction between businessmen of the two countries.

He further mentioned that the Sixth Session of Inter-governmental Commission of India and Uzbekistan held in New Delhi in March this year had set the path for businessmen of both countries to move ahead.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Uzbekistan in April this year has provided a fresh impetus to Indo-Uzbek bilateral relations, he added.

Recently, an Indian textile company 'Spentex' had bought two Uzbek textile companies with an investment of 81 million US dollars.

Mr Elangovan visited the Spentex Mills on October 7.

The Minister also met Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Mr R Azimov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr I Nematov, Minister of Foreigh Economic Relations, Investment and Trade, Mr E Ganiev and the Chairman of ''Uzbekengilsanoat'' (Uzbek Light Industry), Mr Rakhmatulla R Ruzikulov.

Mr Elangovan ad extensive discussions with the Uzbek Ministers on bilateral relations and promotion of trade and investment.

Leading public sector undertakings like State Trading Corporation (STC), BAsic Chemical, Pharmaceuticals&Cosmetics Export Promotion Council, Tea Board, Coffee Board, Spice Board and other leading private companies including Kirloskar Brothers Ltd participated in the exhibition.

The exhibition featured a wide range of products, goods and services including electronic and telecommunication equipments, fashion accessories, garments, handicrafts, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textile dyes, tea, coffee, spices and plastic items.

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd donated two pump sets to Uzbek Government to be installed at Samarkand. The Minister handed over a prototype of the pump set to the Head of the Foreign Investment Department of Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture at the inaugural function.

Renowned fashion designer Jatin Kochar organised a Fashion Show and Ms Padmini Roy along with her 7-member troupe presented a glittering cultural show of songs and dances with Raj Kapoor's famous melodies, which were well received and appreciated by local dignitaries during the event.

Both the groups were sponsored by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
