Bangalore, Oct 10: Ruling out job cuts in Intel India Decelopment Centre (IIDC) here Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager (Mobility Group) Mooly Eden today asserted that the Indian facility remained in the forefront of innovations and design of chipsets for the world IT major's new products.
Demonstrating its commitment to the IIDC Intel today showcased of some of the mobility products which were developed and designed by the Centre.
Speaking at the Intel Developer Forum Mr Eden said the signature of IIDC would be seen more and more in the times to come.
Showcasing the sleek and lightweight Napa SFF, priced little over 2000 US Dollars, he said the new platform was aimed at enhancing performance, battery life, ease of communication/wireless capabilities and form factor.
This innovation provided a 50 per cent smaller form factor and an extended battery life up to 12 hours. It delivered breakthrough capabilities to make entertainment truly mobile for people on the go and improve responsiveness and efficiency of mobile workers. These systems, prominently deployed in Japan, were designed for global market needs, he said.
On the occasion, Intel also launched WiMax chip that support the emerging mobile WiMax networks. The company was accelerating the availability of broadband wiresless access with the launch of the WiMax chip which support mobile WiMax networks. Ten leading telecommunications equipment manufacturers were expected to deliver Intel WiMAX Connection 2250-based products over the next six months.
Mr Eden said Intel was bringing its first mobile WiMAX compliant product to market, marking an important step in the launch of mobile WiMAX.
WiMax technology enabled delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.
Ramurthy Shivakumar, Country Manager, Intel South Asia, speaking about the Classmate PC, said that Intel would not make any compromise on the features of the Classmate PC and it would be a fullfledeged PC. It would run on different programmes including the windows. The price of the computers would have to be determined by the hardware manufacturers. However, it would be a low priced PC that could be bought by bought by millions of middle class families in India, he said.
