Hot, sultry day in Delhi, mercury rises to 37 degree C

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) It was a hot and sultry day in Delhi today as the dry weather conditions coupled with bright sunlight left the residents of the city perspiring.

Though NorthWesterly winds blowing through the air brought some relief, the sultry weather led to a sharp rise in the maximum temperature to 37 degree Celsius, from 35.7 degree C yesterday.

The minimum temperature also rose to 24 degree C.

The capital has been witnessing dry weather over the last ten days.

The dryness in the air is likely to persist over the next week with the South West Monsoon withdrawing from almost the entire North West India following its exit from remaining parts of East Uttar Pradesh.

The Monsoon yesterday also withdrew from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, entire Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, most parts of Jharkhand and northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh&Maharashtra.

''The withdrawal line passes through Cooch Behar, Bankura, Durg, Akola and Dahanu,''the Met office said.

For Delhi, the weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky during the next 24 hours.
