HC dismisses Gajurel's petition

Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) Madras High Court today dismissed a petition filed by Nepali Maoist leader Chandra Prakash Gajurel, challenging an order of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), issuing Transit Warrant against him.

Dismissing the petition, Mr Justice R Raghupathy said, ''I do not find any merit to set aside the order passed by the CMM. As directed by the Magistrate, the Inspector of Police, Bakthinagar Police Station, West Bengal was at liberty to execute the warrant''.

The CMM had directed the Superintendent of Central Prison, Chennai, to hand over Gajurel to Pradeep Kumar Dutta, Inspector of Police, Bakthinagar Police Station, West Bengal before noon on October 11.

The CMM had also directed S Maheshwaran, DSP, Q Branch, CBCID, Chennai, who was deputed by the Tamil Nadu Government, to accompany the detenue till he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
