Haryana plans Tourism Zone for Commonwealth Games
Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) The Haryana government plans to develop a Tourism Zone near Delhi to attract the tourists during the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in 2010.
The Tourism Zone would be set up along the upcoming Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, Haryana Tourism Minister Kiran Chaudhry told reporters here today.
The proposed Zone would serve as an alternative accomodation for tourists on the outskirts of Delhi even after the Commonwealth Games, she said.
The state government had picked up 'Scott Wilson and Kirkpatrick India Ltd' as consultants for the project through global tenders.
The Centre has asked Haryana to provide at least 10,000 rooms for accomodation during the Commonwealth Games. Gurgaon and Faridabad had been identified in this regard, Ms Chaudhry said.
The state government, she said, has asked the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC) and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to provide the maximum possible accomodation for this purpose.
Besides, the government would ask the developers of various Special Economic Zones in the state to develop quality hotels to accomodate tourists during the prestigious games.
''Our target would be to complete everything by 2009, a year ahead of the Commonwealth Games,'' the Minister said.
