Glowing tributes paid to R K Narayan

Mysore, Oct 10 (UNI) Scholars and eminent writers across the world paid rich tributes to R K Narayan, one of the literary greats of the country, on the eve of his birth centenary here today.

The heritage city, where Narayan lived most part of his life, was hosting a three-day international seminar on Intellectual Exchange, organised by the Sahitya Akademi in association with the Indian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies and the Central Institute of Indian Languages here.

Inaugurating the seminar, Association Chairperson Harish Trivedi said Narayan's writings had a natural flow. His fictitious 'Malgudi' was not a geographical entity, but presented the ambience and atmosphere of Mysore.

Lauding the efforts of Narayan's admirers to either have a road or a circle named after him or the Mysore-Chennai train as 'Malgudi train', he said his house here was being passed on from tenant to tenant and as the writers rightly feel, it was a sad reflection that the State Government had neglected this great son of the country.
