Extras still a worry, says Jayawardene
Ahmedabad, Oct 10 (UNI) After their second consecutive win, Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene said today that the team played hard and aggressive cricket with the right attitude.
Speaking to mediapersons after they had completed a 144-run victory over Zimbabwe which virtually puts them into the next round, Jayawardene said that extras were still a major concern for the them.
''We are conceding lot many wides and no balls. Though we were much better today, we still need to cut down on the extras as the tournament progresses and we will be faced with tougher opponents,'' he said after the match.
He also praised the performance of young opener Upul Tharanga saying that he has struck a rhythm and was batting real well. ''We are not putting any pressure on him and letting him play his natural game,'' Jayawardene added.
On resting Vaas, Jayawardene said, ''It becomes difficult for a fast bowler to play three matches in a row and with the main draw of the Champions Trophy looming large we thought this was the best match to rest him.'' Jayawardene, felt that the wicket was slower than the one in Mohali, but added that Sanath Jayasuriya and himself missed a great opportunity to be among the runs.
