Engineer, revenue official arrested for graft in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today caught red handed an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and a revenue official while accepting bribe.

A Vigilance spokesman said today AEE Fiaz Ahmad Zargar, attached with the Truck Terminal Division, Srinagar PWD (R&B), was arrested while accepting Rs 20,000 as illegal gratification from Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Dangarpora, Nowgam.

He had demanded the bribe from the complainant for releasing a bill of Rs 3 lakh on account of construction of the in-patient block of the Charar-e-Sharief hospital.

The vigilance registered a case against the AEE on a complaint by Mir alleging that the engineer was demanding 10 per cent of the bill as bribe for passing it, the spokesman added.

He said vigilance sleuths laid a trap at the AEE's office at Zaldagar, Nawa Bazar in the downtown city during which the accused was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. The money was seized from his possession and the accused later taken into custody for further investigations.

In another operation, the spokesman said vigilance sleuths caught red handed Ghulam Mohammad Kumar, Patwari of Sagipora in Sopore while accepting a bribe of Rs 2500 from Khurshid Ahmed Lone.

The revenue official had demanded illegal gratification for effecting mutation of 14 kanals of land purchased by the complainant from a local in Sagipora. The patwari was taken into custody for further investigations, he added.
