ElderlY couple attacked, woman dies

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) An elderly couple was brutally assaulted in a late night attack by unknown assailants in Chittaranjan Park area of South Delhi resulting in the death of a 70-year-old woman.

Mohan Singh (83) and his wife Surjit Kaur (70), who lived on the first floor in C R Park, were attacked at about last midnight by the attackers, according to sources.

''They had stab wounds in their abdomen and chest and blood was gushing when Mr Singh knocked his neighbour's ground floor residence late last night, even as his wife lay a pool of blood in her room.'' They were rushed to the closeby Max Hospital where Surjit succumbed to her injuries at about 0700 hrs today.

Police said the assailants seemed to be known to the Singhs as the entry was friendly and their were no signs of any resistance.

''No ransacking was also reported.'' We suspect it to be a case of some property dispute, police added.
