Dravid may do a Forest Gump, in the long run
New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) Known for his marathon innings, Rahul Dravid, once he bids adieu the bat-ball game, might swap his cricket shoes with running boots and resurface in a new avtar as a long-distance runner, according to the Team India captain himself.
Endorsing Sunday's Hutch Delhi Half Marathon, Dravid said he wanted to be part of the run, but for his cricket commitments and added that he might fulfill the wish after his cricket career was over.
''I would have liked to run but I can't and that's disappointing.
Runnings is important for a cricketer, even for any sportsperson.
They key to success in sports is strength in your legs and the miles you clock. I'm not sure whether I can compete at this stage but I enjoy running and maybe when my cricket career is over, I'll do it,'' he told reporters here today.
And though cricketers to do victory laps and running between the wickets is an integral aspect of the game, Dravid maintained long distance running is altogether a different proposition.
''Running between the wicket is not just running. It's also about right communication (between the batsmen). And you run just 22 yards in cricket,'' he pointed out.
Asked who was the best runner in Team India, Dravid, without batting an eyelid, named Mohammad Kaif as the electric heels in the ranks.
''Undoubtedly, it has to be Kaif. We have this beep test in practice sessions and inevitably, it's Kaif who wins it,'' he said.
Asked to name the worst runner in the side, Dravid evaded a direct answer and quipped '' The rest of us in the team.'' He was also sceptical about the chances of his teammates if they took part in such a run.
''I'll tell them if they can compete next year but I guess we don't stand a chance to win it,'' he added.
Meanwhile, organisers of the Hutch Delhi Half Marathon announced that more than 27,000 runners have registered for Sunday's run.
