Demand to include entire state under NREGP: Rural Dev Minister

Agartala, Oct 10 (UNI) The Tripura government has urged the Centre to include the state under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP).

Addressing a seminar on NREGP organised by SIPARD yesterday, state Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said that the remaining three districts of the state should also get benefits of the scheme. Currently only Dhalai District is under the NREGP.

Mr Chowdhury further emphasised that all the North Eastern states should be under the NREGP. The entire region is lagging behind compared to Punjab, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.

''The Centre is neglecting the region, even though it is considered to be a backward region.

About 71,800 families have applied for 100 days work under NREGP in Dhalai District. Out of these, job card has been provided to 64,587 families,'' Mr Chowdhury said.
