CRPF's Channu batters weightlifting record in Police Games
Jalandhar, Oct 10 (UNI) Olympian Sanamacha Channu created a new meet record, lifting 187 Kg in 53 Kg Women's Weightlifting in the 55th All India Police Games here today.
The CRPF officer lifted 82 Kg in snatch and 105 Kg in clean-and-jerk to win the event while her teammate N Mani Tombi secured second position with 170 Kg (74 Kg snatch and 96 Kg clean-and-jerk). Usudha Prabhu of Karnataka Police remained distant third with 95 Kg(40 Kg snatch and 55 Kg clean-and-jerk).
Weightlifters from CRPF continued their impressive performance for the second successive day today capturing top two positions in two more events-- Women's 58 Kg and Men's 69 Kg--.
While W Nanoani Devi(196 Kg) and teammate Sukhbir Kaur(160 Kg) bagged top two places in 58 Kg Women's category, CRPF's Baljit Singh (249Kg) and Prem Singh(at the same score) secured top two places in 69 Kg Men's weightlifting event. Kalpana Sawant of Maharastra Police(147 Kg) and Vishyendra Kumar UP Police(248 Kg) bagged third position in the above two events respectively.
CRPF weightlifters also performed well on the inaugural day yesterday as Olympian N Kunja Rani Devi of the team started the winning spree creating new record in 48 Kg Women's weightlifting event.
However, in Judo hosts Punjab Police had an edge over others and won impressively two events which concluded today. Bhupinder Singh and Navjot Chana of the host team bagged top two positions in 56 Kg category leaving the third place for Chap Singh of ITBP. Similarly, in 66 Kg category Kamaljit Singh and teammate Bhupinder Singh of Punjab Police stood at first and second places respectively while Bharat B Bhadala of Karnataka Police finished at third position.
