Cong to contest Vidisha by-poll on BJP's non-performance

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) The Congress will contest Vidisha parliamentary by-election on the issue of non-performance of the Shivraj Singh Chauhan Government in Madhya Pradesh.

The party Observer has given his assessment of the probable candidates for the by-election to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and now it was for her to take the final decision about the candidate, AICC General Secretary incharge of Madhya Pradesh V Narayanasamy said, adding the candidate was likely to be announced tomorrow.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Narayanasamy said the farmers were unhappy with the Government as it could not do the needful to help the farmers affected by the floods and the total drought situation in Gwalior. The Union Government gave a financial aid of Rs 250 crores to the State Government for the purpose but the help never reached the farmers.

He said the murder of Prof Sabharwal in Ujjain allegedly by ABVP leaders had enraged the people for which the Congress had to launch an agitation against the BJP Government in the state organising a state wide bandh.

Moreover, Mr Narayanasamy said, the State Government had utterly failed to solve the basic issues of water, electricity and roads, which it had promised to do before coming to power. People still did not get electricity in the villages for as long as 12 hours. The roads were still in a very bad shape and there was no drinking water in the villages.

Asked about the prospects of the Congress in the by-election, he said the position of the BJP candidate Ram Pal Singh was so bad in his own constituency that he was not allowed to enter it.
