Chief Justice intervenes for home for disabled in Asom
Guwahati, Oct 10 (UNI) The disabled homeless of Asom can now hope for some succour after Gauhati High Court Chief Justice B Sudershan Reddy took note of a media report that a petition on the matter had gone missing.
The Disabled Law Unit (DLU) of the Shishu Sarothi had filed a petition in the High Court on August 18, seeking government's intervention for ensuring permanant homes for the disabled people living on the streets. The Chief Justice, on earlier occasions, had also shown interest in the matter.
However, the file with the petition was misplaced from the Court records.
DLU-NE assistant project co-ordinator Anju Talukdar said that Chief Justice Reddy had directed the Court officials to locate the file following the UNI report of it being misplaced.
'' The file was finally found and the petition will come up for hearing immediately after the Court resumes regualr functions from next month,'' she said.
The organisation had urged for some sort of government initiative for protection and shelter of disabled people, who live on the streets.
