Chennai-based company develops cracker igniter

Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) The city-based Silicon Labs Private Ltd, a medical equipment manufacturing company, has developed a remote craker igniter, 'Safe Crack' for safe bursting of crackers during the Deepavali and other festivals.

Company Managing Director L Narayanan told newsmen here today that the device was the first such to be made in the country and has been patented.

It could be used like the household electronic gas lighter. The entire family could stand at a safe distance and burst crackers by using it like the remote for television, air conditioners, he added.

He said the device was a unique approach for safe bursting of fire crackers and would prevent fire accidents.

Safe Crack is a small box with an adapter plugged to it. The adapter has a hole in which the fuse (thread) of the cracker is inserted.

After inserting, the person bursting a cracker must move to a safe distance and press any key in the remote, and the device will ignite the thread. Once the thread gets ignited, the cracker fires at its own pace.

To a question, he said the device would be available at all major retail cracker shops in the city and would cost Rs 1,199.
