AP BJP seeks Governor's intervention in Afzal case

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP today decided to meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur in a bid to pursuade the the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government against granting clemency to Mohammad Afzal who was facing death penalty for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack case.

Addressing the press here, BJP State President N Indirasena Reddy lamented that some 'pseudo-secularists' in the ruling Congress at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir were pleading for pardon to Afzal.

'The forces seeking pardon have no faith in democracy and are anti-national,' he charged.

He also asked the Union Government to enact stringent laws to curb Pakistan-sponsored terrorist activities in the country as the present legislations were not sufficient to cope with the menace.
