AIADMK candidate Rajan Chellappa granted anticipatory bail

Madurai, Oct 10 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today granted anticipatory bail to AIADMK District Secretary and the party's candidate for the by-election to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, V V Rajan Chellappa, in a criminal case.

Justice M Jeyapaul granted anticipatory bail to Chellappa and two others, who apprehended arrest after the city police registered a criminal case on them in connection with the last Thrusday's violence between AIADMK and DMK members.

In their petition, Chellappa, his son Raja Sathyan and AIADMK local functionary Arumugam, submitted that the case was foisted on them on the instigation of the ruling DMK.

As such, they prayed for grant of anticipatory bail.

Meanwhile, a Division Bench, comprising Justice P K Misra and Justice G Raja Surya disposed a petition filed by former AIADMK Minister O Pannerselvam against the Election Commission and other authorities, accepting the submissions made by the Commission that expeditious steps were being taken to conduct the bypoll in a free and fair manner. The transfer of City Police Commissioner M Chidambarasamy was listed among the steps taken by the Commission.
