AGP team calls upon President over peace process

Guwahati, Oct 10: The Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) today called on the President at New Delhi to discuss the failure of peace talks with the ULFA.

The nascent peace process between the ULFA and the Centre had fallen apart after the proscribed outfit refused to give a formal letter, expressing willingness for talks, maintaining that the condition was against the terms agreed upon during talks with it's nominated PCG.

AGP spokesperson Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya informed here that a delegation of the party called upon the President and urged his intervention to find a peaceful solution to the separists' demands.

The delegation, included party MPs Arun Sharma and Sarbananda Sonowal, vice-president Joseph Toppo, Hiranya Konwar and Ramendra Narayan Kalita, among others.

The AGP requested President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam to intervene to convince both sides to sit for talks without pre-conditions.

Mr Bhattacharya also criticised the state government after an ISI agent, serving life improsnement here, escaped while undergoing treatment at the medical college yesterday.
