Action on medical stores for selling chikungunya drugs against law
Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Department of Drugs Control Administration has initiated legal action against 26 medical stores in the state for selling drugs for treatment of chikungunya in contravention of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
On information that drugs for treatment of chikungunya were being sold without doctors' prescription and sales bills, Department Director N Selvaraju formed teams comprising Assistant Director of Drugs Control and Drugs Inspectors to investigate and file a report.
The teams conducted surprise raids at Chennai, Tiruppur, Nagapattinam, Namakkal and Karur and nearby places.
They booked cases and initiated legal action against the medical stores which sold drugs in an illegal manner, an official release here said.
Mr Selvaraju warned retail chemists that legal action like cancellation of licences and action through police department would be initiated against the persons who violated the provisions of the Act.
