250 cellular towers to be erected in Chittoor Dist

Tirupati, Oct 10: The Tirupati Telecom District Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to erect 250 cell towers to cater the needs of two lakh subscribers in Chittoor district.

The ambitious plan, when implemented, would enable Tiruapti to handle one per cent of the nation-wide subscribers base, Telecom Ddistrict Manager R Mani told UNI.

Apart from the 26 towers commissioned since April this year, two more towers would be erected soon at Tirunala hills, the abode of lord Venkateswara, to improve the quality of cell coverage for pilgrims. Another 35 towers would be commissioned before March next year, he informed.

The waiting list for Wireless Local Loop (WLL) phone would be wiped out in another three months and connection would be provided on demand, he said adding that all the 179 telephone exchanges in Chittoor district were now covered by Optical Fibre Cable (OFC).
