Trinamool to observe 'lajja diwas' against Singur land handover

Kolkata, Oct 9 (UNI) Emboldened by the 'spontaneous' response of the people of West Bengal to today's 12-hour Bangla Bandh, Trinamool Congress plans to observe ''Lajja Diwas'' on October 15 protesting the alleged 'shameful' acquisition of farmland in Singur.

The West Bengal government has acquired 997 acres of farmland in Singur to facilitate setting up of a Small cars manufacturing unit of Tata.

Today at the end of the dawn-to-dusk bandh call, which the Trinamool Congress termed as a 'huge success', the party looked determined top stop the transfer of farmland to the Tatas.

Demanding that the Government stop acquisition of farmers' land at Singur and look for an alternative site elsewhere, Party's senior leader Ajit Panja and Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee said at a joint press conference that both the parties would observe October 15 as a 'Lajja Diwas'(shame day) and organise a march from the city's Gandhi statue to Singur on November 29 as part of a programme for intensifying their movement.
