Students, JKLF activists protest death order to Afzal Guru

Srinagar, Oct 9 (UNI) Students of Kashmir University and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists today staged peaceful protests against a Delhi court order to hang Mohammad Afzal Guru, who has been convicted in the December 13, 2001 parliament attack case.

Street protests have been going on in many parts of the Kashmir valley almost every day over the past two weeks since the court fixed October 20 for hanging Afzal Guru.

JKLF activists led by vice chairman Bashir Ahmed Bhat gathered at Dalgate this morning with placards in their hands demanding the death sentence to Guru be revoked.

Some of the placards read: ''Hanging of Afzal means the hanging of entire Kashmiri nation...Indians are protesting against the hanging of Sarbjeet but are insisting on hanging of Afzal.

Shame...The hanging decision of Afzal on Shabe-Qadr and last friday of Ramzan indicates the communal approach of Indian judiciary towards the Kashmiris.'' Also in the morning, students of the Kashmir University staged protests within the campus against the death sentence.
