Satyabrata Pal appointed High Commissioner to Pakistan

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Mr Satyabrata Pal, presently High Commissioner to South Africa, has been appointed the next Ambassador to Pakistan replacing Mr Shiv Shankar Menon who took over as Foreign Secretary on October one.

Mr Menon who was High Commissioner to Pakistan, was appointed Foreign Secretary after Mr Shyam Saran retired on September 30.

Mr Pal is expected to take up his assignment shortly, an External Affairs Ministry statement said today.

In other appointments announced by the Ministry, Mr Y.K.Sinha was made the next Ambassador to Venezuela while Mr Rajeet Mitter, presently Joint Secretary at the MEA Headquarters, will be the next Ambassador to the Philippines.

Mr Sinha is presently Consul General of India in Dubai.

An External Affairs Ministry official said Mr N Ravi, a 1973 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, was also appointed Secretary at the MEA Headquarters.
