Rs 4000 cr gems park to boost Surat diamond industry

Surat, Oct 9 (UNI) A state-of-the-art gems and jewellery park planned by Gujarat Hira Bourse, not only will redefine the character of the diamond industry in the city, but also increase the share of the city-based gems and jewellery industry in the international market, industry sources said.

Gujarat Hira Bourse (GHB), who are the force behind the venture, are planning a special presentation on the gems and jewellery park here on October 12, at Gandhi Smriti Bhavan, Nanpura, informed Nanubhai Vanani, secretary of GHB.

The park which will be built in the 72 hectre prime land in Ichchapore, will be fully implemented by December next year.

According to Mr Vanani the park will be modelled after the patterns of diamond clusters in Dubai, Antwerp and China.

Industry sources say that the park will be a one-stop-shop for diamond processing to jewellery manufacturing and trading.

Up to 90 per cent of the world's diamond are now processed in Surat, and the new gems and jewellery park will further increase this share, as per the industry's estimates.

According to Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Pravin Nanavati, a major attraction of the park will be its technological excellence.

The park will give a corporatised industrial charecter to the age-old diamond industry of the city, Mr Nanavati said.
