Chandigarh, Oct 9 (UNI) Punjab Government has decided to revive the three SUGARFED mills, each at Patiala, Faridkot and Tarn Taran, with immediate effect.

Disclosing this here today, Punjab Cooperation minister Amarjeet Singh Samra said that these mills would start sugarcane crushing from next month.

Mr Samra said that the co-operative Sugar Mills of Rakhra (Patiala), Faridkot, Tarn Taran, Zira and Jagraon were presently under liquidation.

It is also mentioned here that the employees of these mills had not been paid for the last many months and they were protesting against the liquidation of these mills.

The only profit-making sugar mill out of the 15 cooperative mills is at Nawanshahar while the rest are either running in losses or on the verge of closure under the liquidation process.
